About St. Hyacinth Church - Detroit, MI

Visit website

Saint Hyacinth is located on the eastside of Detroit in an area commonly known as Poletown. Saint Hyacinth Parish was founded in 1907. During this time, the Polish population in the Detroit area was growing rapidly. Face with an ever-increasing number of Poles north and east of Saint Albertus Parish, Bishop John Foley was prompted to establish a new Polish parish. Bishop Foley challenged the Rev. Father Sylvester Kolkiewicz to build a new parish to serve the growing Polish population of this area. Father Kolkiewicz accepted this tremendous challenge. On May 8, 1907 Saint Hyacinth Roman Catholic Church was founded.

Saint Hyacinth is still an active parish today. In addition to the celebration of the Mass and continued offering of the Sacraments, Saint Hyacinth proudly carries on the heritage of our Polish ancestors. Our church is a beautiful building; but you are what makes it a beautiful parish and place to worship. It was your ancestors and now you that give this parish its rich history and Polish heritage. It is you that can help Saint Hyacinth Parish stay alive and carry on our mission to promote the Catholic Faith. We welcome you to visit Saint Hyacinth often. Come here to share in your heritage and most importantly to join with us in the celebration of the Mass.
