I attended Holy Cross from the 2nd through 8th grade from 1958 to 1964. I`m forever grateful for the wonderful education I received. I have to admit - I was a bit of a wise guy and was probably best remembered as a human boxing bag as the dear sisters kept me in line (and likely out of too much trouble!). Thank you Sr. Denise, Sr. Gabriel, Sr. Alexandra. et al. I remember Fr. Greene, Fr. Bill (he took took the altar boys on a wonderful camping trip to the Poconos - and the way he`d come outside to play ball in the "triangle" across from the rectory)and Fr. Henry. A million thanks for wonderful memories.

I attended Holy Cross School in the early fifties and was taught by a nun `Mother Christopher` who was the probably the sole reason why I was able to make something of myself. I have starred in almost sixty films from Live and Let Die to Alien, Running Man, Midnight Run, etc..This woman taught me about life and God that I will never forget, so when I became Yaphet Kotto, I have always given credit to her and Holt Cross and the discipline I learned from the one bright spot in Soundview.

My brother, sister and I attended HC School between 72-80.  They were the best years.  After graduating 8th grade in `79, Fr Perrotti, offered me a P/T job as a receptionist at the Friary.  I spent 4 wonderful years there.  I received my First Communion, Confession, Confirmation and Married at Holy Cross Church(by Fr. Roberto Gonzalez).  I attended Girl Scout meetings in the school cafeteria every Saturday.  One fond memory, was when every Wednesday we walked over to the Convent for a small worship service.  I thought that place was just beautiful.
Most fun I had was being a member of Brother Frank`s Tumblers and being a part of the Turkey Time Tumbling Show every year.  I could go on and on.  I loved every year I was there Sister Lucy Marie in 2nd, Ms. Fazio in 3rd, Ms. Upton in 4th, Sister Edward John in 5th, Brother Dan in 6th, Ms Upton again in 7th and Ms. Olam in 8th.  I loved them all.  I even miss my green/ then brown uniforms.  May the Church/school/parish have many more happy and wonderful years.  I will make sure to attend service when I come up in May to visit my sisters who still live on Soundview by the library.  Thank you for the memories.

I was first baptized at Holy Cross in 1970, went to school there from 1976-1983.  I completed my First Communion and confirmation at Holy Cross.  My father Louis Joseph Francis was very active in the church during those years and made sure I was in church all the time.  He has since passed away, however I fondly remember my time spent in church and at school.  God Bless.

I remember when I was enrolled in Holy Cross School and the impact the Sisters of St. Francis and the Francisican friars made on my life.  I live in the Port Saint Lucie area of EastCentral Florida with my lovely wife of nearly 26 years.  I have three grown kids and three dogs as all good things come in 3`s as I recall being taught by those wonderful nuns and lay teachers (as in the Holy Trinity)  The news of the Holy Name Province vacating from Holy cross caught my attention.  I wish I could have been at your farewell celebration and a trip down Memory Lane.  I was a member of the class of 1968 and fondly remember my classmates and my teachers through the years; Sr. Theresa, Sister Catherine George, Miss Moglia, Sister Francine, Mr. Fillicetti, Sister Denise, Mr. Dan Murray, Sister Kevin Joseph, Sister Martina, Miss McLoughlin, Sister Francis de Lourdes, and Sister Francis Joseph.  Among my friends I recall Ralph Elio, Dan Farago, Nelson Negron among many others.  I am working as a manager of Decision Support Services for the Treasure Coast hospitals of HCA, Inc.  If my travels ever bring me back to New York I will take the time to appeasr for a Sunday mass among friends in Christ.

Well thank you for the memory and God bless you all.

I was so happy to find the Holy Cross site. I lived in Classon Point from about 1939 to Jan.1952.
Although I was Lutheran, most of my reletives and friends were Catholic and I spent some time at Holy Cross. I knew Father Lewis who used to walk the streets every day and we kids would line up at attention out of respect.
(that was a different era).
Of course in those days It was the old building which I still have a picture of.
Many years have come and gone but many great memories of friends and events live in my heart.
Love to all at Holy Cross.

It is with great warmth and affection that I not only came across the website of the parish I grew up in, but also saw a picture of my graduating class(1967).By the way, that picture is in the temporary church, Holy Cross School Gym, not the old church.
Holy Cross and the friars and sisters were the stability and hope in my young life.Fr. Ed Greene was a friend and Fr. Matthew Gaskin was like a father and a brother.
Thank you fro the life I received and I pray that Jesus will continue to minister His life and hope through this parish.

Great site, brought back memories from the late 40`s-early 50`s.  I made my Communion and Confirmation at Holy Cross, and  I remember Father Louis coming to our school, P.S. 107, to escort us to Catechism each week.  As a matter of fact, I just today met someone that also lived in the area and attended Holy Cross.
Small world.
Warmest wishes to all for a very Merry Christmas and a healthy and Happy New Year.

I attended Holy Cross in the 1970`s and I have such wonderful memories of attending school, having girl scout meetings in the cafeteria with Mrs.Casanova and also the Knights of Columbus (which my dad was active in) sponsered Christmas parties. Although I now attend St.Raymond`s, Holy Cross is where I made my first Holy Communion and made my confirmation. All of my formative childhood memories revolve around the Holy Cross parish and school. The website is wonderful. Thank you and God Bless the parish. Congratulations on 85 years of guiding and serving the community.

The website is beautiful. Holy Cross will always be very special to me and my family. I began my teaching career there in 1999 and made some very meaningful friendships. I was proud to return and have my son, Ronan, baptized there in 2004 with Deacon Bello.

I plan on attending the 85th Anniversary Mass. It will be my pleasure to share in a celebration of a parish that has impacted me so much.

I went all through Holy Cross and so did my mother (Clare O`Neil Cashman). I was the first 4th grade in the new school - very exciting at the time.  My mother was married there in the old church and I received all sacraments at Holy Cross.  We were a tight community then and knew Fr. Edward Greene well. (He was very proud of the new church.)  I`m going to try to get to the reunion mass.

Greetings from a former Holy Cross School student now living in Florida who attended there from 1964 to 1973, which to some may be so long ago, in fact, the turn of the century, but to me it doesn`t seem that far way. This web site brought back many memories for me, good, bad or indifferent, even to the point of recalling the teachers during the years I was there from first to eighth grade: Sister Eucharista (1st); Sister Paul Ann (2nd grade, first time); Mrs. Pascarella (2nd grade, second time); Mrs. Fox (3rd); Sister Ann, formerly Sister Eucharista (4th); Sister Joseph Patricia (5th, she had great stories to tell before the end of the day); Sister Maurice (6th - I really loved her); Jacqueline D`Autolo (7th, English teacher); and Sister Veronica (8th). During my years there, the head priests were Father Edward Green and Father Francis Duffy. And how could I forget our gym teacher, Brother Frank, and the principals during my eight years there: Sister Florentine; Sister Francis Joseph and Sister Roberta Mary. I started at the school a year before the old Holy Cross Church and school combined (erected 1923) was demolished and replaced by the more modern one, which has stood there since 1967, a year before the school annex opened for sixth, seventh and eighth graders. Recess at the parking lot called "the black top" playing roundup and a softball games. I made a lot of good friends there, too many to mention, all living in the surrounding areas of Classin Point, Academy Garden, James Monroe and Soundview Houses, etc. I formerly lived in Soundview Houses on Randall Avenue (1958-1969) and Carol Gardens Apartments (1969-1979) on Thieriot and Story Avenues. What a surprise to find former classmate James Bello of sixth, seventh and eighth grade, now the parish deacon. His twin brother, Joseph, came midway in my fifth grade class as well. Yes, those were my days of Holy Cross, and after all these years, and discovering this web site, I`m proud to sign your guest book. Thanks for the memories.

I was delighted to find this beautiful site. Oh the memories. I was Baptized at Holy Cross and with the exception of 3 years during high school was a parishioner until I married (in Holy Cross) and came here to St. Louis. My Parents were also married in the original church. They and their parents were members from the beginning when the Point was a summer community developing into permanent homes. My brother, Harry and I and many of our cousins graduated from the school. This was in the original building. The "new" school was built after I graduated. The "new" church came after I left. I look forward to "visiting" my home parish many times in the future. God Bless.
