Sacristans
What is a Sacristan? A Sacristan is someone who prepares the vessels, gifts, and altar for Mass.
At St. Elizabeth Ann Seton parish we are responsible for setting out the unconsecrated hosts and wine, preparing the chalice, ciboria, cruets, and linens, as well as lighting the candles.
Additionally, some of our Sacristans are involved in weekly maintenance of candles and maintaining a supply of altar wine and bread.
The time commitment for Sacristans is minimal, requiring only that you arrive early for Mass (15-20 minutes).
There are about 25 men and women currently serving as Sacristans. We'd like to grow this number to include you!
How often will I be scheduled for this ministry? Usually you serve once a month.
Can I choose the Mass time for which I serve? Yes! You can sign up for the Mass that you usually attend. We especially need people for the 11:30 Mass.
I'm in another ministry. Can I still be a Sacristan? Yes! Because the duties of the Sacristan are before Mass, you can still be a Reader, CLOW leader, Minister of Holy Communion, Choir Member, etc.
