Liturgical Readers
Are you being called to be a Reader? To proclaim God's Word as a Reader is a special privilege. you are asked to serve in this ministry because you have a special skill in your ability to read well. As a Reader, you have the opportunity to use your God-given gift to present God's Word to the congregation in a way that can move the hearts of those who hear it. In this role, you share in a long tradition in our Church of proclaiming God's Word to the community.
How would I prepare? You would be given your own personal copy of a Workbook containing the liturgical readings so you can practice in advance. You would also receive a copy of the New Reader Guide that takes you step-by-step through the process of preparing for and carrying out your role as a Reader.
How frequently would I read and at which Masses? On average, Readers are asked to read once per month at the primary Sunday or Holy Day Mass of their choosing. Every effort is made to develop schedules that conform to each Reader's personal preferences and availability.
Why are there two Readers at every Mass? The second Reader adds something that simply cannot be conveyed by one person. Their very presence demonstrates participation and diversity, and the opportunity for every member of the parish to actively participate in the Mass.
