Altar Servers
Children of SEAS, have you heard God calling you to serve at His altar?
In their own small ways, at every weekend Mass and special liturgical celebration, the altar servers of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton do their part to help Jesus come into the world!
The altar server ministry offers our children a chance to grow in faith and formation--they come to participate more fully and understand more deeply the prayers, rituals, and procedures of the Holy Mass. They come to know and love the Lord more completely by kneeling in His Holy Presence in the Sanctuary. Altar serving is truly a special privilege, and the children who serve are truly a blessing to our parish family!
Children may begin to consider the ministry once they have received Holy Eucharist and are preparing to enter 3rd grade. Training in the various roles is offered every fall at our parish and after diligent observations by the candidates during the Mass, new servers are commissioned by Father Tom on Seton Sunday in late October. With special Feast Days and Holy Days come additional training specific to that Mass.
As assistants to the Celebrant, altar servers realize the reverence and responsibility that are a part of serving at the Table of Our Lord. They also are aware of the need for rehearsal to learn the various roles well. Reverence, Responsibility, and Rehearsal are hallmarks of the altar server's training and ministry.
