Children’s Choir: "Seton Angels".
SEAS has been blessed throughout its history with talented and dedicated children participating in its choirs. Today's SEAS Angels Children's Choir was affectionately named several years ago by its participants. The children, grades K through 8, are dedicated members of our parish family who enjoy serving our parish in this special liturgical ministry reserved just for them.
Our rehearsals are a lot of fun! Children learn a variety of new liturgical songs each year. younger children learn through simple, relaxed, and repetitive methods like following the leader and clapping. Simultaneously, the older children are able to focus more intently on basic music theory, vocal techniques, and harmonies. Those in 5th grade and above are tested for thir ability to match pitch and blend with others and are subsequently encouraged to cantor vrious parts of the Mass from the cantor stand. Older members encourage and support the younger children in their learning, allowing them to receive mentor experience while helping their neighbor.
Music is not the only thing we learn! As song leaders it is our job to tuch the hears of the assembly and assist them in praying through song. In our choir, understanding the meaning behind the song lyrics is as important as learning the music itself. Children have many questions about the Mass, Scripture, and our "T"raditions and "t"raditions. the good news is that most of these questions are already answered through our familiar Catholic hymn lyrics, and as a group we unravel them through Q & A swssions at each rehearsal! This way the children are catechized ina non-traditional way; one that will be reinforced throughout their lives each time they sing that song. When a hymn has truly reached their hears, they are able to lead the assembly more prayerfully.
We rehearse weekly and lead song at Mass one time per month, and also at special parish events such as Seton Sunday's Evening Prayer and Benediction, the Epiphany Pageant, Evening Prayer following Mardi Gras, Ash Wednesday Children's Service, the Children's Passion Play, and Easter Sunday Mass. We welcome new members at any time throughout the year. Won't you join us?
