“The Year of Faith”
Pope EmeritusBenedict XVI has declared this year [October 2012-November 2013] as the “Year of Faith” for the New Evangelization. Often when we think of “evangelization,” we think of disciples going out to bring the “Good News” to areas that have not yet heard the Gospel message. With the New Evangelization, all Catholics are invited to renew their own faith! The need is evident with the society we live in today which excludes God and sends messages that conflict with the values of our Christian faith. According to Pope Benedict, all of this has led to a “deep poverty”—lives full of business but without meaning, tedious routines and an inability to have joy.
Jesus said, “I came that they might have life,
and have it more abundantly.” [Jn 10:10]
God is waiting to fill us with meaning and hope. This is the purpose of the New Evangelization. During this “Year of Faith,” all members of the Catholic Church are called to a “renewed conversion to the Lord Jesus” and to the “rediscovery of faith so that we will be credible and joy-filled witnesses to the Lord.”
Each of us is called to this renewal and rediscovery of faith, and we offer many opportunities for you to do so through our Adult Faith Formation programs at SEAS! Following is a listing of the kinds of AFF programs at SEAS. Check the sidebar on the website under AFF or the bulletin for a current schedule of our programs. For more information or to sign up for a study, please contact Diane Luceri.
One of the best ways to come to know God is by reading and studying His Word! It is through Scripture that God reveals himself to us! At SEAS we offer a variety of Bible study programs throughout the year (even in the summer!) Our studies appeal to a wide range of people, from those who have never studied the Bible to those who are the more “seasoned” students. Time at home is required to prepare for a session, consisting of reading the Bible and answering questions. Bible study sessions include group discussion led by trained facilitators followed by teaching via DVD presentations. Most studies require the New American Bible, the Catechism of the Catholic Church, and a study guide. Registration is required in order to be placed in a group and to order study materials.
